Brooke Terpening

After a successful career as a Silicon Valley software engineer, Brooke Terpening attended law school to become a patent attorney. Instead, she took a sharp detour into criminal defense. Working with Florida’s top death-qualified attorney, she saw the inner workings of a justice system few get to see. The cases were heartbreaking and sometimes horrifying. She learned that the deceased weren’t the only victims of a crime.

Since graduating from Lighthouse Writers’ Workshop Book Project, her fiction has won awards from the Writers’ League of Texas, Pacific Northwest Writers Association, Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers, and was a Killer Nashville Claymore finalist.

Today, she and her husband live outside Boulder. When not writing, she volunteers with therapy dogs to provide comfort to patients, police, first responders, and trauma survivors.
